I’m a mother, but you cannot see my children. I have carried eight lives in my womb who never made it to their due date, but I am and will always be their mother. I celebrate Mother’s Day confidently and courageously, because Mother’s Day is for me, too.⠀

I have grown in my ability to still have hope and unexplainable joy for the future in spite of my circumstances. ⠀

Today is International Bereaved Mother’s Day. A day not to grieve, but a day to celebrate. To celebrate the lives of babies and children who are no longer with us, but whose lives have impacted our lives and hearts in such deep ways! It brings my heart so much joy when friends and family mention my babies, because I know they are remembered, honored, celebrated, and loved- no matter how short their lives here on earth were. David gave me a new band this year. It’s an enhancement ring consisting of a simple gold band and five teardrop diamonds radiating out and topping my wedding ring like a crown. This band symbolizes so much to both of us and what we've learned and how we've grown over the last five years. In the card he made me, he wrote:⠀

"Like fire burning away impurities and causing gold to rise to the surface, so the searing losses on our hearts, the heat of the tears on our cheeks, and the warmth in the comfort of one another has brought about a beauty and softness to us even more valuable than gold.⠀

This process is hard. But this is what vulnerability does. Vulnerability with God, vulnerability in marriage, vulnerability in relationships, and vulnerability with ourselves. ⠀

Vulnerability creates beauty and value, even more valuable than diamonds or gold, when we have the courage to let go of the fear of uncertainty and learn to love ourselves through the process of owning our story. ⠀

I think I’ll be in this process for the rest of my life and I don’t know what every turn the path will take. But this past year has shown me how God can use moments of vulnerability, tragedy, darkness, and uncertainty to draw us closer to Him so that we can find true courage and see clearly the path to healing, restoration, and redemption. ⠀
